Why I Work with the LGBTQ+ Community

As a licensed psychotherapist and a self-identified lesbian, I’ve chosen to focus my practice on supporting the LGBTQ+ community. This decision is both personal and professional—and it’s one that I come back to with intention every day.

Many LGBTQ+ clients seek therapy not just to address anxiety, depression, or trauma, but to find a space where their identity is understood and respected. That’s why queer-affirming therapy matters—and why working with a queer-identifying therapist can be uniquely powerful.

The Value of Queer-Affirming Therapy

Queer and trans clients often experience therapy differently when they don’t have to explain themselves. Whether it’s navigating gender identity, chosen family, nontraditional relationships, or coming out later in life, having a therapist who understands the cultural context can reduce emotional labor and build deeper trust.

Working with a lesbian therapist—or any LGBTQ+ therapist—offers more than representation. It offers insight, shared language, and a culturally competent space where healing can unfold more naturally.

Why Representation in Therapy Matters

I understand the isolation that can come from not feeling seen. As a lesbian, I know how valuable it is to sit across from someone who doesn’t question your identity, make assumptions about your relationships, or avoid topics that are central to your life.

That shared understanding often allows the therapeutic process to move more efficiently and compassionately. Clients are free to explore grief, identity, relationships, and resilience in a space that affirms all parts of who they are.

What I Offer as an LGBTQ+ Therapist

My private practice offers virtual therapy across California with a focus on:

  • LGBTQ+ individual therapy

  • Queer couples counseling

  • Support for life transitions, grief, and anxiety

  • Affirming care for late bloomers and coming out experiences

  • Relationship therapy rooted in LGBTQ+ experience

You don’t have to educate me. You just get to show up as yourself, and we’ll do the work together.
